El otro día me comentaba mi amigo RAMON RIESCO, que debería escribir sobre derrotas que hayan sido dolorosas, porque de ellas también aprendemos cosas.
Y yo estoy de acuerdo con RAMON. A veces, una derrota, por muy amarga que sea, sirve para sacar conclusiones y cambiar cosas, que de otro modo no se hacen. Y cuando hay problemas es mejor tocar fondo para luego resurgir.
Dos tristes derrotas vamos a traer a colación, que seguramente todos recordamos.
La primera es la dolorosa derrota en Copa de Europa frente al MILAN de los holandeses. Corría la temporada 89-90, y tras haber caído el año anterior en semifinales frente al PSV, el Madrid de la Quinta del Buitre, se conjuraba para ganar la tan ansiada Séptima. En semifinales nos tocó el Milan. En la ida, empate a 1 con goles de HUGO SANCHEZ y VAN BASTEN. Quedaba el partido de vuelta en Milan, y nada hacia presagiar el desastre de un equipo que nunca pudo triunfar en Europa. El 19 de abril de 1989, en un San Siro abarrotado y que vivió una histórica noche, el Milan pasó por encima del Madrid y le goleó sin piedad. Los italianos vencieron por 5-0 y esta derrota permanece grabada a fuego en la memoria del madridismo. Y no será por falta de jugadores de calidad. Buyo, Chendo, Sanchis, Gallego, Gordillo, Míchel, Schuster, Martín Vázquez, Paco Llorente, Hugo Sánchez y Butragueño. Equipazo que naufragó.
Momento del partido en Milan.
El segundo capitulo es la pérdida por dos años seguidos de La Liga, al caer en la ultima jornada ante el mismo equipo, Tenerife. Primero en la temporada 1991-92; tras estar toda la temporada lideres, llegamos a la última jornada con un punto de ventaja sobre el Barcelona. Ellos jugaban contra el Athletic de Bilbao y nosotros en Tenerife. Al descanso ganábamos por 1-2, pero en una segunda parte que jamas olvidaremos, Ricardo Rocha, en propia meta, empataba sin querer el partido para los chicharreros. Miedo en el cuerpo. La Liga se esfumaba. Un error de Chendo aprovechado por Pier dejaba el 3-2 definitivo. Pero es que a la temporada siguiente, el azar quiso que nos jugásemos la Liga otra vez en Tenerife en la ultima jornada, siendo lideres. Esta vez, con BENITO FLORO en el banquillo, sucumbimos por 2-0 en un partido lamentable, donde fuimos incapaces de imponernos al rival.

Ambos episodios, primero en Europa y luego en España, supusieron el punto y final para una generación magnifica, LA QUINTA DEL BUITRE. Grandes éxitos, y grandes partidos nos brindaron, pero a veces las derrotas nos enseñan, que todo debe llegar a su final, y empezar otro proyecto. 5 años después del desastre en Tenerife el Madrid ganó la 7ª Copa de Europa.
