Aprovechando el duelo del martes con el CELTIC, vamos hoy a recordar un duelo que tuvo lugar en Copa de Europa, y que supuso una de las primeras remontadas en Europa.
Corría la temporada 79/80 y nos enfrentamos a los escoceses. Primer partido en Escocia el 5 de marzo de 1980 en la ida de los Cuartos de final de la Copa del Europa. El Real Madrid perdió 2-0, por lo que tocaba remontada en Madrid. McCluskey y Doyle marcaron por el Celtic frente a un Madrid entrenado por el recordado Boskov, y donde jugaban García Remón, Benito, Camacho, Stielike, Del Bosque, Cunningham, Juanito y Santillana entre otros. Gran equipo.
En el partido de vuelta jugado en Madrid, con un gran ambiente, llegó la remontada tantas veces vista en el Bernabeu. Loa goles de Juanito y Stielike igualaron la eliminatoria y Santillana, en el minuto 85 le dio el pase al Real Madrid a las semifinales en medio del éxtasis del Bernabeu. Una vez más, el MADRID conseguía lo imposible.
Desgraciadamente esa temporada, en semifinales nos tocó el gran HAMBURGO, que nos dejó fuera de la final que se jugaba en nuestro campo, y que acabaría ganando el Nottingham Forest por 1-0 al Hamburgo.
