Tras el fichaje de TCHOUAMENI, hay muchos jugadores de color en la plantilla del MADRID.

Por eso en este capítulo nos vamos a referir al primer jugador de color que jugó en el MADRID. Se cuenta que el primer jugador de fútbol negro del Real Madrid fue el brasileño Waldir Pereira, ‘Didí’, que llegó a las filas merengues en la campaña 1959-1960, tras haber triunfado con el BRASIL de PELE en el Mundial de Suecia 58. De hecho llevó la batuta de Brasil. No era especialmente rápido, ni físicamente fuerte, pero hacía con la pelota lo que le daba la gana, marcando gran cantidad de goles y asistiendo a sus compañeros.

Sin embargo, DIDI cuando llegó el MADRID, lo  hizo con 30 años, una edad por aquel entonces muy alta ya. Y no se adaptó al futbol europeo, de forma que poco a poco se fue diluyendo, en un vestuario lleno de estrellas, con los DI STEFANO, GENTO, PUSKAS y compañía. Santiago Bernabeu se equivocó con aquel brasileño y lo acabó reconociendo, al venderlo a la siguiente temporada al Botafogo, Club del que había sido fichado. Allí, DIDI siguió triunfando, y de hecho tuvo ocasión de revalidar el título de Campeón del Mundo en Chile 1962.

En todo caso, ahí queda la anécdota del primer jugador de color del MADRID.
