CAPITULO II. TIEMPOS DIFICILES NO TAN LEJANOS

Mañana el Madrid de Baloncesto juega la “Final Four” en Vitoria. Será la 6ª vez en los últimos 7 años que ello sucede. Resulta obvio que desde que cogió el equipo PABLO LASO, los madridistas somos más felices. El equipo en estas últimas temporadas ha sido el rey absoluto en la competición nacional, y en Europa estamos rememorando gloriosas épocas pasadas, pues no en vano, el Madrid es el equipo más laureado en Europa (10 títulos), de manera que actualmente estamos viviendo una segunda época dorada en la Sección de baloncesto. PABLO LASO merece una estatua. Ha hecho de lo extraordinario, lo habitual.

Pero precisamente ahora que todo es felicidad, ahora que vuelve a llenarse el Palacio para ver jugar al equipo, ahora que volvemos a reinar en España, y porque no decirlo, en Europa, me gustaría que recordásemos, sin ánimo de flagelarnos por supuesto, una época no muy lejana, donde la Sección de Baloncesto pasó por momento difíciles, donde el riesgo de la desaparición estuvo latente en muchos momentos. No es ya solo que no ganásemos mucho; es que la travesía por el desierto fue lo habitual durante muchos años.

Han sido muchos los momentos difíciles, siendo imposible aquí desglosar todos. Estoy seguro que cada uno tiene momentos negros que recordar de la Sección, pero a mí me gustaría destacar dos de ellos, por la singularidad que tienen. El primero, en la Temporada 90-91, cuando nuestro añorado IGNACIO PINEDO, técnico del Real Madrid, sufrió un infarto en el banquillo en la primera parte del encuentro ante el Clear Cantú, correspondiente a la Final de la Copa Korac, falleciendo meses después. Había sustituido a WAINE BRABENDER en una mala temporada. Esa temporada, donde caímos en cuartos en el “play off” de Liga, resume bien aquellos tiempos malos, que culminaron con el fatal desenlace ya comentado.

El segundo momento histórico que me gustaría destacar fue cuando se puso fin a una de las joyas de la corona que tenía la Sección. Me refiero al Torneo de Navidad, que los más jóvenes posiblemente desconocerán de su existencia. Se trataba de un Torneo Internacional,​ conocido como Torneo de Navidad, a nivel de clubes (y algunas ediciones con selecciones nacionales), organizada por la FIBA en sus primeras décadas, y con la supervisión del gran  RAIMUNDO SAPORTA.

Sin duda se trataba del mejor Torneo amistoso, y a todos los efectos, durante décadas albergó a los mejores clubes y selecciones; la cena de Nochebuena tenía como aperitivo previo el Torneo de Navidad. Por desgracia, acabó languideciendo en el año 2004, como casi lo hace también la sección. Años difíciles, y no tan lejanos.

Por supuesto,, podrían recordarse más momentos tristes de la Sección. En todo caso, mi intención es hacer un pequeño homenaje a los seguidores del Madrid de Baloncesto, que en esas décadas de los 90 y 2000, y salvo contadas y gloriosas excepciones, hemos vivido de forma itinerante sin tener un Pabellón propio, viendo como existía un desapego del Club hacia la Sección en general, que afortunadamente se ha corregido, como lo demuestra la gran inversión que actualmente se realiza, pues no en vano somos uno de los equipos con más presupuesto de la Euroliga, y por supuesto siempre viviendo los aficionados madridistas con el “Sambenito” de que nosotros no entendíamos de baloncesto, y que solo éramos futboleros (parece que si no eres del Estudiantes, Baskonia, Juventud y algún otro club, no tienes derecho a que te guste el baloncesto).

Para todos esos madridistas, seguidores de la Sección del Baloncesto que hemos vivido épocas duras como las ya mencionadas, y otras más que cada uno guarda en su memoria, que hemos sufrido momentos difíciles, pero que nuestro amor por el club en general y por el Baloncesto en particular, han hecho posible sostener la Sección, sirva este pequeño homenaje histórico, ahora que parece que nada ni nadie nos hará caer.

Conviene recordar aquellos tiempos no tan lejanos donde hemos sobrevivido de mala manera, y ahora que el viento sopla a favor, hagamos lo necesario para evitar que vuelva a peligrar la posibilidad de la desaparición, que en un momento no tan lejano, fue algo más que un mero rumor.

Disfrutemos del momento. Confiemos en que este equipo vuelva a alzarse con la Copa de Europa este fin de semana, pero no olvidemos aquellos tiempos. También son Historia, y ahora que parecemos indestructibles, recordemos que no hace mucho, fuimos vulnerables. Recordando eso, seremos más fuertes!!!!!
