De las cosas pequeñas se nutren las cosas grandes

Ya está en marcha la remodelación del estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Serán algunos años de incomodidades, pero esperemos que el nuevo estadio responda a las expectativas despertadas con este proyecto.

Sin duda hay opiniones para todos los gustos sobre la necesidad o conveniencia de hacer obras en el estadio, diferentes puntos de vista. Y lo cierto es que esta situación no es nueva, pues hace ahora 70 años que se inauguró este campo, y desde entonces, ha habido varias remodelaciones.

Hasta 1946, el Madrid estuvo jugando en el viejo Chamartín,  pero dado su deterioro, el presidente, D. SANTIAGO BERNABEU, gestó la idea de un gran campo. Se le concedió el crédito para la adquisición de los terrenos, y en Septiembre de 1944, se presentó el proyecto del nuevo estadio, que fue inaugurado oficialmente el 14 de Diciembre de 1947 en un partido frente al OS BELENENSES.

Inicialmente el nombre del campo fue el de “Estadio Real Madrid”, aunque todos los aficionados, de forma popular lo llamaban, “Nuevo estadio Chamartín”. No tardó mucho en remodelarse, pues en 1954, tuvo lugar la primera ampliación del campo al construirse el tercer anfiteatro, y ello ante la gran demanda de entradas, y además añadiendo la grada conocida de siempre como “el gallinero”. En aquellos tiempos no había asientos y se veía el fútbol de pie, por lo que la capacidad del campo llegó hasta los 120.000 espectadores en los grandes días de partido. En 1955 se cambió el nombre al del actual “Estadio Santiago Bernabeu”, y en 1957 se inauguró la iluminación eléctrica, lo que facultó la posibilidad de empezar a jugar partidos por la noche. Hasta 1972 no se vió en un campo español un marcador electrónico, y el primero fue en el Bernabeu. Con motivo de la celebración del Mundial 82, y para adaptarlo a la normativa FIFA, se acometieron nuevas obras de mejora, consistentes en que la mitad del aforo tuviera asientos, lo que hizo reducir la capacidad hasta los 90.000 espectadores, parte de los cuales estaban a cubierto, al ser ésta, otra de las remodelaciones que se emprendieron entonces. Es en 1997, cuando por normativa FIFA todo el aforo del campo paso a ser de asientos, reduciéndose la capacidad.

La última gran reforma, fue la construcción del cuarto anfiteatro y mejora general de las instalaciones, como video-marcadores, calefacción, mejora de accesos etc.

Como vemos, desde su inauguración aquel 14 de Diciembre de 1947, han sido varias las remodelaciones sufridas, y aunque ahora a los más jóvenes les pueda parecer imposible, el Estadio en sus origines nada tenía que ver con el actual, pudiendo decirse que ha cambiado totalmente.

Ahora volverá a haber cambios.
