In medio virtus. La virtud está en el medio

Acabamos de disputar el partido de ida ante el Manchester City. La decepción reina entre todos nosotros, si bien, y dado que estamos ante nuestra competición favorita, nunca es descartable, una gesta en tierras británicas. Veremos como se desarrolla la vuelta…….

No es nuevo que el Madrid tenga a rivales ingleses en la COPA DE EUROPA, y hoy vamos a rememorar el primero de los enfrentamientos que tuvimos frente a equipos de las Islas en «nuestra competición».

Concretamente hemos de remontarnos a la temporada 1957-58. Era la segunda temporada de la COPA DE EUROPA, y como todos recordamos, veníamos de ganar la primera Copa al ganar en Paris al STADE DE REIMS por 4 a 3.

Pues bien, en esa segunda temporada, empezamos con un gran susto, pues en Octavos nos tuvimos que enfrentar al RAPID DE VIENA, con un global en los dos partidos de 5 a 5 , lo que motivó que se disputase un partido de desempate, que se acordó jugar en el Santiago Bernabeu, y donde nuestro equipo se impuso por 2 a 0, pasando a los cuartos de final, donde nos cruzamos con los franceses del NIZA, imponiéndonos de forma contundente por un global de 6 a 2.

Y ahí llegaron las semifinales. Teníamos como posibles rivales al MANCHESTER UNITED, ESTRELLA ROJA y FIORENTINA. El sorteo deparó un duelo ante los ingleses. El partido de ida s disputo en Madrid, un 11 de Abril de 1957, y los blancos se impusieron de forma clara por un contundente 3 a 1, con goles de RIAL, DI STEFANO y MATEOS

En la vuelta disputado en el temible OLD TRAFFORD,  el 25 de Abril, conseguimos arrancar un empate a 2 goles, siendo los goleadores, KOPA y RIAL, que se adelantaron por 0 a 2, poniendo en franca ventaja la eliminatoria.

Ello motivó el pase a la final que se disputó en el SANTIAGO BERNABEU, frente a la FIORENTINA. Nos impusimos a los italianos por 2 a 0, conquistando ante nuestra afición, lo que en ese momento constituyó la segunda Copa de Europa.

Hemos de decir que en general, se nos han dado bastante bien los duelos ante los equipos británicos, así que hemos de confiar en que esta vez, la historia se repetirá, y pese al desastroso partido de ida, pasaremos de ronda.

    • Es cierto el dato, y es algo que deberíamos tener en cuenta para por ejemplo, haberles invitado algún año al Trofeo Bernabeu como mínimo,, o algo mas, porque pocos casos creo yo que habrá como ese. Deberiamos agradecerselo de algún modo
